Program/project overview: The disability research project has been funded by Disability Service Queensland (DSQ), to identify the needs of people from culturally and linguistically diverse background with disability.
Primary Focus:
- Consult as widely as possible on the gaps, opportunities and issues CALD people face in accessing disability services.
- Gain information concerning needs for additional services and adequacy of existing services.
- Raise awareness about issues facing people with disability from CALD background.
- Contribute to the development of regional plans, and setting of service priorities, for people of CALD background with disability, to meet the needs of families and caregivers.
- Prepare reports on service delivery issues and recommend strategies and actions for resolutions towards increased disability service delivery.
Referral Criteria:
Any person from ACLD backgrounds with a disability who is aged between 0 and 65 years and where they have a disability which:
Is attributable to an intellectual, psychiatric, cognitive, neurological, sensory or physical impairment or a combination of impairments, and
Results in a substantial reduction of the person’s capacity in one or more of the following areas:
Communication
Social interaction
Learning
Mobility
Self care/management
And result in the person needing support for a significant and ongoing level of disability support in the following disability services:
Accommodation support
Community support
Community Access
Respite or advocacy.
And is permanent or likely to be permanent (and may or may not be of a chronic episodic nature.

What happens after referral?
Once a referral has taken place, the following actions will occur:
- Arrangement will be made for an assessment /intake appointment with the client.
- During assessment, the client will be informed of what the project is all about and all services provided by MultiLink.
- The project officer will assist people with disability to maximise their independence and participation in the community by facilitating access to appropriate services and to access necessary supports, including help with assisting services to respond to their service needs.
