Program/ project Title: Community Development
Program/ project overview: This program aims to engage ethnic communities in Logan, Beenleigh and Beaudesert areas with processes that increase people’s ability as individuals and groups to prepare for, and respond to opportunities and challenges in their community.
Primary Focus:
- Identify the needs of the multicultural communities through consultation with members and working with them to develop programs that meet their needs.
- Engage ethnic community leaders and key community members to increase their level of participation in government decision making processes and disseminate information to the broader community.
- To build the capacity of government and service providers in dealing with culturally and linguistically diverse clients.
- To provide ethnic communities with links to service providers and government.
To provide ethnic communities with daily living supports through referrals and emergency relief funds.
- To provide personal support to ethnic individuals, families and groups
Engage ethnic communities to develop early intervention strategies to domestic violence.
Referral Criteria: Clients are able to be referred into this program if they are migrants or refugees and live in Logan, Beenleigh or Beaudesert areas. Community leaders or Key community members who are representing community members who live in these areas can also be referred to the services even if they do not reside in these areas.
How to Refer: formal and Informal referrals are welcome
What happens after referral: Once a referral has taken place the Community Development Officer (CDO) will make contact with the client and arrange a meeting. The aim of the meeting is to give the client an opportunity to raise their issues and work with the CDO to identify possible ways to approach the issues raised.
