Program/ project Title: Crime Prevention project for CALD Youth
Program/ project overview: To engage youth from a number of culturally and linguistically diverse ethnic backgrounds (CALD) who live within the Logan City, South East and South West Brisbane Regions, to participate in multiple age appropriate forums.
Primary Focus: To increase the knowledge of CALD youth on issues in relation to crime in order to help them make “Smart choices”. The forum topics will cover issues such as:
- Rights and responsibilities of Australian residence/ citizens
- Relationships and the law
- Violence and family violence
- Assult- emotional and physical/ sexual
- Racial discrimination
- Drugs, Alcohol and smoking laws and their health hazzards
- Situational crime- graffitti, street fights, vadalisation and break’n’enters
- Crime and punishment- robbery, burglary and motor vechicle theift
- Anti-social behaviours- intergenerational conflict, gang mentality
- Police- rights and responcibilities
- Carring concealed weapons
- Juvinille justice and court systems
- Legal Aid
- Reporting crime and support services avaliable
- QLD Transport- driving and the law.
Referral Criteria: Youth can be referred into this program if they are
aged between 13 and 21 years old and are from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.
How to Refer: The forums have been completed for the 06-07 funding period. Please keep watching this space for information on future upcoming forums.
What happens after referral: Once a referral has taken place, the project facilitator will notify the individual of the dates, topics and times of the forums. A meal will be provided during the forum.
