Program/ project Title: Newly Arrived Youth Support Service
Program/ project overview: The Newly Arrived Youth Support Service (NAYSS) initiative provides culturally appropriate services including early intervention and transition, for newly arrived young people aged 12 to 21 and their families.
Primary Focus: The focus of NAYSS is to provide support and advocacy to young people and their families who are effected by homeless, or are at risk of homelessness, to improve their level of engagement with family, work, education, training and the community by using a variety of strategies such as counseling, family mediation, brokerage and practical support.
Referral Criteria: Youth are able to be referred into this program if they are:
- aged between 12-21 years old and
- arrived in Australia 5 years ago or less
How to Refer: To make a referral to this program obtain the client permission (or their parents). Once the permission has been granted please the Child, Youth & Family team on 3808 44 63
What happens after referral: Once a referral has taken place, the following actions will occur:
- A caseworker will collect as many details as possible over the phone from the referrer. If interpreters are required, we need to be notified of preferred language and gender so arrangements can be made.
- Arrangements will then be made for an assessment/ intake appointment with the client (this usually takes 1 hour to complete). Clients will be asked to sign a commencement form.
- During assessment / intake, the client will be informed of all services provided by multiLink and support will start immediately.
